I do not see the possibility of a toll road on Rt. 9 - it is a dangerous road as it is - single lane, mostly curvy road. It would be possible on 522, but congestion would be a nightmare.
One thing I didn't like about the article in the paper was it said that a "Private" company could run it which makes no sense - why let someone else run something the County could do itself? I also didn't like that it wasn't stipulated that all the funds remain in the panhandle. I agree with the contributors of the article that it seems like another way for the Governor to take money out of the panhandle to support the rest of the state.
The intent of the toll booth should be to raise money to build a bypass or widen current roads, however, I do not think our roads could support a toll booth 24 hours a day, traffic would be to bad. My wife and I were discussing this last night and talked about what if it was a limited toll booth. An example would be no tolls during morning/afternoon rush hour (e.g., 5:00-8:00 AM and 3:00-6:00 PM)
This is another very good example of an issue that needs to be put to a vote of the People. People are already struggling to pay for gas to get to work without adding a few extra bucks to the pot.
