I believe we are going to have THREE to a team and also FOUR to a team, the
3's and 4's would compete against each other. Sometimes they have two to a team,
but haven't decided on this one yet, will just have to wait until we see if we get a lot
of TWO people wanting to play.......
Each team will bowl with one bowl......first person on the team throws it, it is chalked
marked where it stops......second team member throws from that point, and so on...
The team winner is the team that gets to the end of the course in the least amount
of strokes......
Our Match is free.....pay $5 at beginning of Match for the bowl, when you finish the
Match, return the bowl and receive your $5 back.......
our Match will be at Cacapon State Park at 1:30 on July 26th......will try to get a demo
up beforehand, just to give people an idea of how to play......
No one around here knows anything about Irish Road Bowling, so everyone is in the
same boat as far as experience....including myself.

how many people do we need for a team? I may be able to find a few friends, but need to know how many I need to play. I don't want to ask too many and have to tell them no later.

Nooooooooot really.....the course for our event will be a mile long.
Each team will bowl with one "bowl" (ball)......it will be played on
the roadway in Cacapon State Park.....from what I understand of
the game, it is similar to golf and bowling.....you run and loft the ball.
Started in Ireland and was introduced in this country thru the Civil War.
Teams can consist of 2-3- or 4 players........
The "bowl" is a cast iron ball that looks like a small cannon ball and
believe ME, it IS heavy.
I would love to see more people getting interested in this. It is a really
fun family sport.....good for exercise, health, and just a good time.
The closest one to us would be in Blackwater Falls, so we are trying to
introduce it to our County......
It is also not a sport you play every week, etc. .........in Morgan County it
will only be setup the one day thru our Fair Week....
here are a couple of sites you can check out if interested.

and here is the site that got me started :

the gentleman that has this site is located right here in Washington, DC

| Never heard of it before, but sounds another variation of the many forms of Yard Bowling.

Hello, anyone out there interested in how to play Irish Road Bowling?
The Morgan County Fair is going to introduce it to Morgan County
this year.....it's a fun game to play. Was introduced into West Virginia thru
the Civil War......and is played with a ball, called "bowl" that like a small
cannon ball, about the size of a tennis ball...anyone interested in getting
up a team.......please let me know.
There will be a PRACTICE Match on April 20th at Cacapon State Park, if anyone is
interested in learning this game please come and join in or just watch the Match.
..........Mary
