OK....I will give the Division of Highway folks a call, but in the mean time, maybe someone can explain some things to me.
First, a lady (forget her name) from the Division of Highways called me a couple weeks ago (she told me she would call the other candidates as well) and said that my signs on 522 (just prior to the BP, and at the intersection of 522 & Rock Gap) needed to be removed because they were in the DOH right of way.
According to the Division of Highways Rules for the Placement of Political Sings, it states "Signs or posters cannot be placed on or above a Division of Highways right of way, which normally stretches 20 feet from the center line of a public road. Distances vary, however, so please contact the West Virginia Division of Highways if you are uncertain". The lady that called me said their boundry typically extends from the road out to the utility poles. My signs were on the side of the road opposite the utility poles and most of them were near the edge of the woods, far from where any mower would be.
So, why have my signs been removed, yet the Stacy Dugan and Earl Yost signs along 522 have not? The lady from DOH also told me that she has contacted the Real Estate companies becuase their signs were not suppose to be there either as they are a safety hazard for their mowers, but yet, they have not been removed either.
Regardless of whether signs are on private property that is a nice manicured lawn or private property that is tall grass and woods - private property is private property and the DOH right of way should be the same from one end of 522 at the Maryland line to the other end of 522 at the Virginia line.
I also noticed that there is an Earl Yost sign in the center median downn 522 just prior to the VA line - if the median in the center of the road is not DOH right of way, not much else can be.
So....is it me or have other folks noticed???? Maybe I will go take some pictures and post them here tomorrow.
